Shared-Use Equipment

SEKSPA members are welcome to use our SHARED-USE EQUIPMENT

which consists of the following:

Sheep Handling Equipment

We have available Sydell Sheep Handling Equipment that includes a Spin Doctor mounted in a 16-foot, solid panel alley way (see above photo). The equipment includes an 8-foot swing tub, a 2-way sorting gate, guillotine gates, and a weighing scale. The Spin Doctor is very useful for drenching, trimming hooves, weighing, doctoring sheep, etc.  The equipment is mounted on a portable 16-foot transport base with 15-inch wheels that can be pulled with a pickup truck with a standard 2-inch coupler ball hitch (tongue wt. 340 lbs.). Because it is excessively long and bulky (27’-6” long x 4’-6” wide x 8’ tall) it can not be transported over the Interstate or highways with certain restrictions. As a result, transportation of the Sydell Sheep Handling Equipment is limited to the following Kentucky counties: Casey, Clay, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne and Whitley. Requests to use the equipment outside of those counties may be considered under special circumstances. SEKSPA members who use the Sydell Sheep Handling Equipment will be required to pay a maintenance fee and are asked to abide to the rules as listed HERE.

HOOFBOSS SHEEP HOOF CARE/TRIMMING SET

SPA has six (6) HoofBoss ‘Complete Sheep Hoof Care/Trimming Sets’. Three of our HoofBoss sets are electric plug-in and three are battery powered. Each set include a hand-held power trimmer, two 8-tooth chains and an assortment of medium to course grit discs. The three battery powered trimmers have two DeWalt batteries and a DeWalt battery charger. The electric plug-in Hoof Care/Trimming Sets were donated to SEKSPA by Boss Tools (https://mybosstools.com/). SEKSPA members who use the Hoof Care/Trimming Sets are asked to provide feedback on the use of the tool by completing this SURVEY.

TRANSPORT CAGE

SEKSPA members are welcome to use the Transport Cage (see above photo). The cage measures 42” (long) by 36” (wide) by 36” (tall) and is light enough to easily lift and place in the bed of a pickup truck. It has a wire mesh floor. A ratchet strap should be used to secure it to the truck bed floor during transport. The cage can easily hold one good sized sheep or it can hold two to three 60-80-pound lambs.
