Weaving Workshop and Fall Arts Weekend

Who: Pine Mountain Settlement School (PMSS) in partnership with the Southeast Kentucky Sheep Producers Association (SEKSPA) 

When: Friday, November 4, 2022, 6:00 PM – Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022, 11:00 AM

Where: Pine Mountain Settlement School, 36 Highway 510, Bledsoe, KY 40810

Learn the rich history of sheep, wool, spinning and weaving in Appalachia while experiencing the processing of wool from field to loom. Participants will be immersed in hands-on spinning, dyeing and weaving, while creating a table runner on our historic looms. Other Fall Arts Weekend Workshops include Beginners Blacksmithing, Cane Bottomed Stool and Fall Color Weekend.

This all-inclusive weekend includes 2 nights lodging, 5 meals, and workshops led by some of the region’s most respected artisans.

Cost is $325.00. 

 

We will be kicking off the weekend after the evening meal on Friday, November 4, with two SEKSPA presentations. 'The History of Sheep in the Mountains of Eastern Kentucky' will be presented by the eminent Appalachian Historian, Dr. Jessica Madison of Jackson Co. KY and Dr. Patrick Angel will make a presentation on the growing sheep in the Appalachian Counties of Kentucky.
