EASTERN KENTUCKY FARMER CONFERENCE

MOREHEAD CONVENTION CENTER, MOREHEAD, KY

The Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD), Community Farm Alliance (CFA), the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy, Kentucky State University, and the University of Kentucky are partnering to offer the 4 the Annual Eastern Kentucky Farmer Conference. The conference will be held at the Morehead Conference Center in Morehead, KY on February 28 and 29, 2020, beginning at 12:30 pm EST on Friday and 8:30 am EST on Saturday.

Topics for this year’s conference include high tunnel production, GAP and post handling practices, selling in today’s digital market, small fruits production, understanding your processor, no-till vegetable production, livestock management, and a session about the rise of the sheep industry in eastern Kentucky that you won’t want to miss!

Sheep are well adapted to hill land agriculture and are ideal for improving and maintaining the upland landscapes that are found throughout the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Patrick Angel, President of the Southeast Kentucky Sheep Producers Association (SEKSPA) will be conducting a session for people interested in starting a sheep farm and for experienced sheep producers who want to hear how farmers have united to form a voice for the development of a strong sheep industry across the region.

With the help of organizations like the Kentucky Sheep and Wool Producers Association and SEKSPA, sheep farmers are creating an agricultural renaissance for the sheep and wool industry and have great potential to contribute to the economic revitalization of Eastern Kentucky.
